SNL Financial Announces Launch Of The First Tee National School Program
Charlottesville City School's new program teaches character values through golf
Charlottesville, Va. (Sep. 26, 2007) — The First Tee National School Program, Charlottesville City Schools, The First Tee of Charlottesville, and SNL Financial today announced that students in grades K-8 at Charlottesville City Schools will participate in The First Tee National School Program, which promotes character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.
The National School Program emphasizes The First Tee Nine Core Values: honesty, integrity, respect, confidence, responsibility, courtesy, sportsmanship, perseverance and judgment. The program is being sponsored by SNL Financial in conjunction with a national grant from the World Golf Foundation.
“SNL Financial is proud to fund the training and purchase of equipment to introduce the National School Program to all children in the Charlottesville City Elementary and Middle Schools,” said Jan Corrin, Chairman of the Employee Activities and Community Awareness Committee for SNL. “SNL believes in making positive contributions to the community’s non-profit organizations.”
"The First Tee National School Program is an innovative way to address the whole child by incorporating character education and physical fitness in a community setting,” said Rosa Atkins, Charlottesville City Schools Superintendent. “We appreciate SNL's generous support that is making this possible."
The First Tee of Charlottesville, located at Meadowcreek Golf Course, will organize the training of all city PE teachers, and continue to monitor and foster the program.
“The National School Program is structured to present a quality, school golf curriculum that develops competency, understanding and progression through movement and physical skills,” said Benna Cawthorn, director of The First Tee National School Program. “Through this program, children as young as five will be exposed to the motor patterns associated with golf, along with the inherent values of the game.”
