SNL Financial Hosts Second Annual Operation BRAVO Holiday Bake-Off to Benefit Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan
Proceeds of fundraiser will provide entertainment electronics and DVDs to U.S. military overseas.
Charlottesville, Va. (December 5, 2008) - SNL Financial will host a holiday bake-off for Operation BRAVO - Bringing Relief and Video Overseas - a charity that supplies electronics and entertainment to soldiers deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. The event will take place on Monday, December 8 at SNL's downtown Charlottesville location.
Since Operation BRAVO's inception, U.S. troops overseas have received nearly $400,000 of entertainment and electronics. This year, Operation BRAVO is planning to send MP3 and DVD players to command staffs overseas, where they will be distributed to soldiers in the field through a lottery system.
For the bake-off on December 8, SNL will open its doors to the public and the media from 11:30am to 2:30pm. The SNL building is located on the corner of Market Street and 7th Street N.E. Representatives from Operation BRAVO will be present to collect the proceeds.
"Last year's bake-off was a huge success, and we're very proud to once again join Operation BRAVO in spreading some holiday cheer to our troops abroad," said SNL Activities Committee chair, Jan Corrin. "We encourage anyone in the local community to stop by the bake-off, sample and vote for their favorite holiday treat, and donate money or DVDs to support the brave men and women serving our country."
"We do this to let the troops know that people are thinking about them back here and that we appreciate their sacrifice," said Bill Hamilton, founder and president of Operation BRAVO. "The commanders say it means so much to the soldiers coming back from missions, where there is extreme high stress and possible combat or injury - to roll back into the base, sit down, watch a movie or listen to music - and change their world."
Additional drop-off boxes for DVDs for Operation BRAVO are located at Crutchfield retail stores in Charlottesville and Harrisonburg as well as at SNL.
